Another experiment page, I wanted to speed up my backgrounds and my colouring process. I really hit a wall with my colouring, so I studied what I was doing against what I wanted to achieve. I was doing too much like burying the hatching with colour shading, and way too many highlights.
I decided to try mostly flat colours and work within a pastel colour wheel (my original intention years ago when I started this comic.) I was able to quickly colour the first panel (my favourite part of this page) and then it all fell apart. Every choice I made was the wrong one, and I had to heavily modify almost all my colours.
Even worse was how poorly Life’s colours worked in this page. Whatever energy I found in that first panel was quickly lost.
